Worth knowing
- Output depends on the whole playback chainThe file, device, display and audio equipment all matter. Format badges describe media, not proof of HDMI output. A server conversion can change HDR, codecs and audio.
- Quality limits can ask your server to transcodeOn iPhone and iPad, movie and episode quality controls keep the original when it fits and request conversion when needed. Server capabilities, settings and entitlements still apply.
- TrueHD Atmos loses its object metadataThe surround bed and channel layout survive. Atmos objects only pass through untouched from E-AC-3 sources.
- AV1 is software decoded on Apple TVNo Apple TV chip has AV1 in hardware yet. It plays, but it works the processor harder than HEVC does.
- Dolby Vision Profile 7 becomes Profile 8.1The enhancement layer is dropped, which no Apple device could decode anyway. You get Dolby Vision instead of the HDR10 fallback.
Common questions
Does Plozz play MKV on Apple TV?
Yes. Plozz can open Matroska files on the device itself. Mobile streaming-quality limits can request a server conversion instead of the original file.
Does Plozz support Dolby Vision?
Yes, profiles 5, 7, 8.1 and 8.4. Profile 7 is the one used by UHD Blu-ray remuxes, and Plozz converts it to Profile 8.1 during playback because Apple hardware cannot decode it directly.
Does Plozz support Dolby Atmos?
Plozz supports E-AC-3 JOC stream copy on a compatible playback chain. TrueHD Atmos plays too, but its object metadata is not preserved. Conversion, device and audio-output settings can change the delivered format.
Does it cost anything?
Plozz is free and open source under GPL-3.0, with no paid format tier. Hardware compatibility and any server-side requirements still apply.
Does Plozz play HDR10+?
Plozz supports HDR10+ metadata in compatible playback paths. Actual output depends on the device, display and stream; an HDR10+ source badge is not proof of HDMI output.
Can it play Blu-ray and DVD images?
Yes, decrypted ISO images, with title and chapter selection.
